Approaching Black formed Late 2007 by Freelance Graphic Designer Shannon Riches. And what a first year, with support from Paul van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Eelke Kleijn, M.I.K.E., Flash Brothers to name a few. Having played in bands from an early age, Shannon made the transition from shreding six strings in metal bands, to the more experimental realms of computer based music in the mid to late 90's. The mid 90's UK Garage scene was the turning point, with the sounds of UK Legend Grant Nelson being the first major influence. Working at an Ad agency during that time, it was always difficult to find the time needed to devote to music creation. But a few years after turning freelance, and at a turbulant time during his life, Shannon started producing what would be the first of many relaeases. 'Rare moments of Pleasure' was the first release on Arctic wave, and recieved good suport from Paul van Dyk and Eelke Kleijn. A few EP's and remix's later Shannon signed 'Tonic' and 'Always with You' to Sunset to Sunrise recordings, with imediate reaction. Tonic held AudioJelly's 1 Progressive slot for several weeks, and again was featured worldwide in many DJ's playlists and charts. Subsequent AB remix's for STSR and In Trance we Trust also did the business, and a deep driving and uplifting sound was starting to develop for Shannon. Later remix excursions for Bellarine and Silk Digital have introduced a smoother and lighter side, highlighting the diverse sound Shannon was looking for. With new Tech/Prog releases forthcoming, the music continues to shape and mold, whilst always retaining that amorous, dark yet light flavour.
