1:Arsenal is a Belgian music band formed in '99 by Hendrik Willemyns & John Roan. The music of Hendrik Willemyns & John Roan delivers a smoothly produced lounge funk, and first appeared with the EP RELEASE from '99.
A lot of encouraging gibberish and a few compilations later they released A VOLTA, a collaboration between Arsenal and Mario Vitalino Dos Santos, a brazilian capoeira-teacher. Result : a track so bright Jockeyslut wrote : 'a slow burning epic, which, when it finally kicks in, magically makes big bowls of fruit appear on everyone's heads' . The track hit the dancefloor big time and was compiled worldwide onto various compilations. Again a lot of blahblah and a good set of live-shows later, they felt like stepping out of the shadows of "those compiled" with their first full-album with the glorious title OYEBO SOUL.
In '05 Arsenal gives birth to their second album OUTSIDES, an emotional album and at the same time a dance occasion, in which rock guitars are easily engaged in a dance of copulation with exotic sounds. The album becomes one of the top Belgian albums of the year, with hitsingles like SAUDADE, SWITCH & EITHER and Arsenal becomes one of the most popular Belgian live acts.
On April 11th, 2011, LOKEMO, Arsenal's 4th album, will be released. With the help of people like Johnny Whitney (Blood Brothers, Jaguar Love), M™lanie Pain (Nouvelle Vague), Shawn Smith (Brad, Satchel, Pigeonhead), Mike Ladd, Ken Andrews (Failure), and local underground act Depotax, Hendrik Willemyns & John Roan turned LOKEMO into arsenal-album with teeth. Sharp teeth. First bite is MELVIN and will be released March 20th.
2: Arsenal were formed after the split of the seminal post-punk outfit Big Black in 1987; Steve Albini went on to form Rapeman and then Shellac, whilst Santiago Durango went on to form Arsenal, who released two fuzzy EPs, hot with fleas.
