BIOGRAPHY

It's 1983 and Ivo Watts-Russell, label-head of South London's left-leaning independent 4AD imprint decides to indulge his musical whims with a collaborative project called This Mortal Coil. The group (an ever-changing pick n' mix of various recording artists Ivo was into at the time) released a cover version of Tim Buckley's haunting 'Song To The Siren' as their first single and it's this track that Barraka have classily updated for Lost Language. Barraka are producer types Nick Hales and Gez Dewar who will be remembered as the creative force behind Doi-Oing and Heliotropic, though the Barraka combo is bolstered by the rather talented Clare Pearce who provides the mesmerising vocals on 'Song To The Siren'.

There are four mixes over two twelves of 'Song To The Siren' with Jean-Phillipe Aviance's Dirty South remix heading up the A side of disc 1 treading the fine line between progressive and tribal while Filterheadz conjure up a controlled blaze of quality vocal progressive with their truly moving mix on the b side. Disc two sees Jean-Phillipe return with his rather special dub and Canadian progressive trance genius, Max Graham does great things to finish off the already heavy package.
