Информация об исполнителе
DJ Disk was born and raised in San Francisco, California, as a Panamanian, Columbian, and Nicaraguan Latino. In 1977, Disk was inspired after hearing Kraftwerk on the radio and seeing Star Wars. By the age of 11 he was performing at local shows and competing in DJ battles, helping to spread record-scratching across San Francisco in the 1980s. By the early 1990s, DJ Disk connected with dj q-bert, another local hero, quickly dominating the local DJ scene.
In 1993, DJ Disk joined the Rock Steady DJs, changing scratch DJ history when he recommended that the group be named Invisibl Skratch Piklz. DJ Disk soon left the group to add to skratch culture in a different manner.
In 1999, DJ Disk formed the supergroup El Stew to collaborate with various musicians from outside his genre of specialization. Disk went on tour, playing before thousands of people in countries such as Japan, Australia, Brazil, Austria, Italy, Spain, Copenhagen, Poland, Switzerland, India, Dubai, Egypt, Lebanon, Russia, China, and Korea.
He collaborated with legends like Toshinori Kondo, Herbie Hancock, Bill Laswell, Buckethead, Les Claypool, Rancid, DJ Krush, Mike Patton, Flava Flava, Lyrics Born, Ulsted Sultan Kauhn, Primus, Buena Vista Social Club, Wayne Shorter, Praxis, and Serj Tankian.
Disk has also collaborated with drummers Brain, Jack de Jeonette, Terry Lyne Carrington, Cindy Blackman, Tim Alexander, Brian Blade, Karsh Kale, and Zakir Hussain. DJ Disk is involved in more than 70 recordings, and more than 30 recorded concerts released on DVD. DJ Disk continues to tour worldwide, and has a number of future projects planned.
