Juan Saiz

Flute, piccolo, saxophone tenor and soprano. Juan Saiz is creative and resourceful, blending influences of James Newton, Jorge Pardo, Messiaen, Bartok, Evan Parker and Eric Dolphy. He lets them all in, invites them to play in his music, integrates them into his stream of consciousness. His compositions are and solos shows how are often rooted in contemporary harmony and melodic lines suggest the influences of modern classical composers.
Saiz plays in a large variety of constellations including solo flute, accompanied by orchestra, duo, trio and quartet. His music crosses genres, including jazz as well as his original approaches to traditional music. The list of artists with whom Juan has shared the stage and studio is extensive: Iva Bittova, Baldo Martínez, Terry Day, Marco Mezquida among others and He has shared the stage with bands as The Chieftains or Alan Stivel as well as performed as a soloist with the symphonic orchestra. He has played in venues such as San Sebastian Jazz Festival, Barcelona Jazz Festival or Qurtuba Jazz.
