"One Creator" is the newest creation of Krishna Kaur, one of the most beloved Kundalini Yoga teachers in the world. Krishna was one of Yoga Bhajan's earliest students, and more than 40 years later, she continues share the teachings of Kundalini Yoga with unmatched energy. In addition to being a renowned Kundalini Yoga teacher, Krishna is the regional coordinator for 3HO Africa, which unites Kundalini Yoga in Africa, and she founded and runs Y.O.G.A. for Youth, a non-profit dedicated to training yoga teachers to teach yoga to at-risk youth. Now, on top of her other achievements, Krishna has released her first music CD, One Creator, and not surprisingly, it's a blissful musical experience.
Three of the tracks on One Creator are well-known Kundalini Yoga mantras that are brought to new life with an international beat. "Eck Ong Kar" is a soulful rendition of this mantra, with multi-layered vocals that uplift and open the heart."Har Gobinda" is upbeat and flowing. The powerful vocals intertwine with the jazzy sounds of the instruments, led by Krishna's distinct, beautiful voice. Finally, "Rakhe Rakhanar" is put to such a catchy melody that it's virtually impossible not to chant—and dance—along. Through all these songs, the accompanying flute and saxophone bring a depth that isn't always found in mantra.
Several of the other songs on One Creator are in English, making them easy listening for non-Kundalini Yoga practitioners. In "Oh My Foolish Heart", Krishna gives us a beautiful, soulful gospel song, melding devotion and heartfelt longing to remind us "Don't be attached to all the worldly things…leave your doubts behind".
"You are My Lover Lord" is an expression of Krishna's search to find a way to worship God and to discover her true life's purpose. She sings about the sense of belonging and support she receives from her profound belief in God, and whether you share her beliefs or not, you will be deeply moved by this song. Similarly, the title track of the CD, "One Creator", is another inspirational song that is a call for unity among people of all walks of life.
With such an array of excellent songs on this CD, it's hard to pick a standout, but "Tuhi" is so creative, upbeat and fun that you'll find yourself playing it again and again. The lyrics tell a story of an old man who wandered around "a little village far away", chanting his devotion loudly throughout the night. The townsfolk banished him, but when he was gone, bad things began to happen in the village. They brought the old man back, and now the people in the town keep the peace, as "they all take turns chanting, Tuhi, Tuhi". Absolutely delightful!
As we celebrate Krishna's glorious new creation, we remember that Yogi Bhajan told us to Vibrate the Cosmos to stay healthy, happy and holy. Thankfully, Krishna's "One Creator" gives us plenty of reason to sing, dance, vibrate, and stay uplifted. Thank you, Krishna, for all you've given the world!
