La Rumba is a fresh, exciting and fiery 4 piece Gypsy Flamenco band from Melbourne and the only one of its kind in Australia. Their unique and undeniable style of Flamenco is a highly spirited and hypnotic magic, guaranteed to bring any audience to its feet and keep them dancing vigorously ALL NIGHT LONG!
With masterful ability and amazing musicianship, La Rumba whips up a frenzy of infectious flamenco spells from heart-felt melodic ballads to high energy, up-tempo gypsy rumbas that burn deep in the soul and leave a lasting impression.
The band has made quite an impact on the music scene since they formed in late 2009, quickly picking up 4 - 6 regular shows a week and wowing audiences across the city. The rhythms are intoxicating and no-one can resist to move to the grooves this band creates.
La Rumba consists of Lead Vocalist Jarrod Rojo, Michael Rajab - Guitar & Vocals, Jaime Carrasco - Bass & Vocals, Toby Hack - Lead Guitar & Vocals. Each member has varying musical backgrounds which makes an interesting and exciting blend not to be found anywhere else. Together these musicians captivate their audiences and continue to create an amazing atmosphere with their Gypsy Rumba Flamenca.
Michael Rajab (Guitar/Vocals/Cajon)
Michael was born surrounded by music. With a father, a professional Lebanese drummer, and a mother possessed with flamenco, Michael's family influenced him greatly. This was the beginning of a life-long love of Arabic and flamenco music. In his 20's he turned his attention to the guitar and using his percussion background, fused the sounds of flamenco guitar with arabic and gypsy rhythms and has never looked back.
Toby Hack (Lead Guitar/Vocals)
Over the last 18 years Toby has made his way through many styles of music (eg Jazz, Funk, Blues) until deciding to dedicate his time to Flamenco in 2004. He Travelled to Spain and studied under some of the well known local Guitarists. Since his return he has performed with different groups playing traditional Flamenco as well as Gypsy Rumba.
Jarrod Rojo (Lead Vocals)
Born and raised in Melbourne, La Rumba's voice, Jarrod has enjoyed the rock side of the music scene and headed well known cover bands (The Reckoning, The Children Of…) With a yearning for the big stage rising above all else Jarrod has gone back to his spanish roots and is now front and centre with La Rumba, booming his earthquake style he is so renowned for.
Jaime Francisco Carrasco (Bass/Vocals)
Jaime is a multi instrumentalist with over a decades experience in the music industry. Migrating from Chile with his family at a young age he soon discovered a passion for the music of his Latin American heritage and quickly began forging a career along this path. In his late teens he began touring around Australia and overseas. He has collaborated on many albums and has consistently performed in all major world music festivals on the circuit.
Their first self-titled CD was recorded in february 2010 and is available now. It offers a combination of original compositions as well as covers. This delightful mix of lively gypsy rhythms tinged with arabic flavours creates a rare style that will please your senses!
The new CD will be launched late next year.
The band is now working on their new show and is preparing national and international tours.
