Lavrentis Machairitsas Lavrentis Machairitsas is a well-known Greek music writer and performer. He has released many gold and platinum-certified albums, creating his own music style, and has also written soundtracks for several theatrical plays and movies. He was born in Volos, Greece and studied music in the Greek Conservatory. In 1980 his friends and he formed a band called “Termites” and left for Paris where they performed for a year and a half in many French clubs. In 1982 “Termites” returned to Greece and recorded their first album titled “Armageddon” with English lyrics. In 1983 their first Greek record was released, also titled “Termites”. From that moment on “Termites” defined the new Greek musical scene and they recorded: “Amartoli Maria” (1985), “Tsimedenia Trena” (1986), “Termites sto Lykavito” (1987) and “Perimenontas ti vrohi” (1988) which signaled the breakup of the band.
In 1989 Lavrentis signed with MINOS E.M.I. and released his first personal record, “O Magapas kai I Sagapo”, beginning his solo career as a music writerand performer. Two years later he released “Didimoticho Blues”, which was quickly certified gold. The record “Rikse Kokino stin Nikta” followed two years later, receiving similar positive critiques. From 1991 until 2002 Lavrentis paired with Dionysis Tsaknis holding countless concerts around Greece which were recorded and turned into an album. In 1995 he released the record “Parathira pou Kourase i Thea”, a project that most critics judge to be one of his best albums. In 1997 his success continued with the release of “Pafsilipon ” which featured other artists and proved a great success, and two years later released his record “Etsi drapetevo apo tis parees”.
In 2000 he featured in the Angelo Branduardi’s record “L’ infinitamente piccolo” in the song “O Soultanos tis Vavilonas”. In 2001 Angelo Branduardi was featured in Lavrentis Machairitsas’ new record titled “To Dialima Kratai Dyo Zoes”, and in 2003 he released the record “Sto afierono”. The summer of 2004 Lavrentis collaborated with Christos Thivaios and toured Greece and Cyprus. In the end of the year, he released an album titled “Halcyon Days: From Nuremberg to Old Nicosia”, a compilation of live recordings of a decade of concerts in Greece, Germany, United Kingdom and Cyprus with the participation of various friends and collaborators, including Tsaknis, Pliatsikas, Thivaios, Kitrina Podilata, Moutsatsou, Logaridis, Karatzoli and Angelo Braduardi.
In 2005 he toured Greece with Philippos Pliatsikas and Dionyssis Tsaknis, promoting their new cd single “Chriazete ena thavma edo”. He also participated in Thanos Mikroutsikos’ concerts “Stavros tou Notou kai grammes ton orizodon”, which were recorded and turned into a cd that was quickly certified platinum. In the winter of 2006 he held many live performances titled “25 years our Rock music” with Tsaknis and Pliatsikas.In the summer of 2006 Laverntis leld a tour with Ziogalas, Kazoullis, Kitrina Podilata and Mitzelos all around Greece and abroad. In the fall of 2006 the record “Heroes me karbon” was released, featuring Mitzelos, WC, Tsanaklidou, Lekkas, Eleonora Zouganeli and Michalis Marmatakis.
In the winter of 2006-2007 Laverntis performed many live performances at the musical stages “Zygos” in Athens and “Fix” in Thessaloniki with Tania Tsanaklidou, Sakis Mpoulas and Yiannis Zoyganelis. In the summer of 2007 he toured Greece, Cyprus and other European countries with Mpoulas, Starovas, Mitzelos and Eleonora Zouganeli; and in the winter of 2007-2008 he held many successful live performances at the musical stages “Zygos” and “Akti Pireos” in Athens with Papakonstantinou, Mpoulas, Yiannis Zouganelis and Starovas.
In the beginning of 2008 Lavrentis released his first “best of” album titled “Tosa Hronia, mia anasa,” a compilation of his best songs from 1989 to 2007. The collection was quickly certified platinum and led to a two-day concert in Lycabettus Theater in the beginning of June, attracting many guests and enormous success (15,000 individuals). In the winter of 2008-2009 he held live performances in Athens and Thessaloniki with Makedonas, Miliokas, Koutras, Starovas, Konstantopoulos and Zinovia Arvanitidi. At the same time he held live performances with Notis Mavroudis, Anastasia Moutsatsou and Panagiotis Margaris, performing Manos Hadjidakis’ songs. In the summer of 2009 Lavrentis toured Greece, Cyprus and other European countries with Dimitris Starovas, Alkiviades Konstantopoulos and Zinovia Arvanitidi.
In the winter of 2009-2010 he held live performances titled “No smoking (toxedo)” in Thessaloniki and in Athens with Kotsiras, Afroditi Manou and Kitrina Podilata. The huge success of these performances led to a summer tour all over Greece. In the beginning of 2010 he released 4 CDs and one DVD titled: “Tosa hronia mia synavlia,” a best-of album that compiled his best songs as performed at the 2 (sold out) concerts he gave in June 2008 in Lycabettus Theater, through the “Real News” newspaper.
