Spark (Matthew Willox) has written music since he was a young boy, but it wasn’t until he found an application called “Scream Tracker 3″ that allowed him to produce entire songs and record them to cassette tape.
With early projects called Special Weapon and Perpetual Music Machine, releasing mods on local BBS services. Matthew always took an independent approach to releasing music. When MP3.com arrived, he set up shop on the internet as Spark.
Spark went on to release one album to critical acclaim “The Robotic Girl Next Door”, won the Fourth City Laptop Battle, and released an ill-received record on the n5MD label. With this album, and it’s various production oversights, Willox felt that he had alienated his core Spark audience. He began to devise a new moniker that could weather the stylistic changes and not be tied into a pre-existing audience. While having many stylistic differences over many albums isn’t necessarily the best way to build a collective of like-minded followers, Willox felt that given enough care and attention to detail that listeners from all tastes could find something to like. It was clear to him though, that he had fallen off his own Spark bandwagon. Thanks to the help of Mike Cadoo @ n5MD, Spark remains Matthews most successful project.

Winnie The Shit started in 2004 as a side project to spark an electronic noise performance artist, but has since evolved to encompass many genres.
In 2005 Winnie The Shit released “Hand Driven Episode” which received an overwhelmingly positive reaction. A clear hit “Sorry I Shook You” emerged and was regarded as the seminal Winnie The Shit song. As a follow up to that release, Winnie released “Easy”, a mellowed, down-tempo sci-fi trip inspired by the burgeoning Vancouver dubstep scene. This release set in motion the desire to do a true bass driven chillout album, “Sons Grave”, which Winnie released in 2008.
In addition to albums, Winnie the Shit has a stunning, eclectic and energetic live show. The sounds are a combination of prepared loops, live improvisation and deep bass. Always holding it to a palette of grooves and spacey synths, Winnie the Shit blends together a fun, warm, and loving ambiance with the people on the dancefloor.
Matthew is now currently in production on the fourth Winnie the Shit album, as well as producing tracks for the Winnie the Shit Soundcloud page.
