Soul Rebels Brass Band (also Soul Rebels, The Soul Rebels or The Rebels) are an eight-piece New Orleans based brass band that incorporate elements of soul, jazz, funk, hip-hop, rock and pop music within a traditional brass band framework. The band grew from their traditional New Orleans brass style out of original members Lumar LeBlanc and Derrick Moss’s shared desire to play the music they heard on the radio but with respect to the New Orleans brass band tradition. The band has gone from a local New Orleans favorite to collaborations with Metallica, Green Day, George Clinton, Galactic, Juvenile, Slick Rick, Trombone Shorty, Irma Thomas, Roy Hargrove, and many others. The band has built it’s career around an eclectic live show that harnesses the power of horns and percussion in a funky party-like atmosphere. Soul Rebels have performed on the Discovery Channel, TBS, NPR, ESPN, BBC Two and on many major national and international stages. The band routinely plays over 250 shows a year.
The Soul Rebels have been described by the Village Voice as “the missing link between Public Enemy and Louis Armstrong.”
The band consists of percussionists and founding members Lumar LeBlanc and Derrick Moss, trumpet players Julian Gosin and Marcus Hubbard, trombonists Corey Peyton and Paul Robertson, saxophonist Erion Williams, and sousaphonist Edward Lee Jr.
