The Piano

Wendy Tahara started taking classical piano lessons as a child and has always had a life-long love affair with music. She loved the freedom of expression and joy she felt whenever she played, and that led to her completing a Bachelor of Music in piano from Indiana University in Bloomington. After performing chamber music concerts, recitals, and accompanying other classical musicians, she discovered a love and appreciation for accompanying ballet dancers as it gave her the freedom to improvise, create, and play with tempo, phrasing, and timing which further enhanced her classical training. She currently plays for dancers at Westside School of Ballet in Santa Monica, CA, where she plays a mix of classical piano pieces, classical ballet music, and improvised music for her classes.

The Celtic Harp

Wendy's first encounter with the Celtic harp happened when she saw Scottish harper William Jackson perform a solo concert in Charleston, SC in 2006. Enchanted, she spoke to him about the instrument, and was able to acquire a beautiful harp by Larry Fisher eight months later. Though she had no intention of actually becoming a harpist, the universe had other plans, and the instrument opened another door as she began composing and performing her own pieces.

Her Music

Wendy often plays for the spiritual/healing/kundalini yogic communities, and her heart-opening, angelic music has been described as “soulful, evocative, heart-healing, compassionate, soothing, stirring, passionate, thrilling”. She often plays for kundalini yoga classes, meditations, sound baths, and events at Yoga West in West Los Angeles, CA. She has toured with the healing musical artist Ashana, composed and performed for the healing gazer Braco, performed meditation music for The Agape International Spiritual Center in Culver City for Michael Bernard Beckwith, and played for various kundalini chant artists at yoga festivals throughout the US. She is currently working on a solo Celtic harp cd to be released Christmas 2016 so look out for the news on Facebook!

Private Piano Lessons

Wendy has loved teaching private piano lessons to students of all ages. She has taught students for over 20 years in both California and South Carolina from ages 4 through adult. She prefers teaching students from beginner through advanced intermediate levels, and thoroughly enjoys teaching each and every person. Lessons are very individualized, flexible, and progress at each person's own rate. Wendy believes that lessons should be encouraging, uplifting, and enjoyable, yet appropriately challenging. She is a conscious, kind and open-minded teacher, with an emphasis on note reading, theory, ear training, and personal musical expression. Her goal is to get her students to become self-sufficient pianists who enjoy all types of music!
