ReviewAlmost as a perfect segue out of Murcof, could come visual and musical artist Takagi, with the second instalment in his 'Eating' series. Opening with a sole oboe, branching into the pizzicato strings, plush piano and almost synthetic steel drum riddim of 'casa Blanca', this is a poetic beginning to an album bound to be received well by admirers of Masakatsu's first excursion. 'Botanica' has all the muted jazz appeal you could wish for, xylophones and breathy chording with a cheeky celeste, 'Wolcalasso' reveling in its more jaunty, edited classical feel. 'Trinidad bird' seals the equatorial associations of this album, a wonderful bass vamp and one of the very finest cuts here. Again, the music is ripe with pure associative qualities, allowing room for the all important imaginative space. 'Gelnia' could be one of the most relentlessly cheery numbers you could hear all year, yet this is balanced by a quite gorgeous, almost modal styled jazzual 'Bounce', down in tempo but not in heart. 'venetian red' implements some nifty keys, As a video artist, Masakatsu works with images and sounds in combination, most recently with the fashion designer Agnes B for his video installation and dvd release "light park". As ever, there's an advertising vulture waiting to snaffle the resonant melodic shapes of this finely tuned album, make sure to sneak in before someone has their wicked way with it, for this is a tender, well meant and gloriously enriching listen. Highly Recommended.
