In February of 2020, The Bluechips began recording a batch of longer compositions for release by the end of the year. As the global and domestic catastrophes began to unfold, progress on the album became more and more restricted. With their native New York State on "pause", each sparse session was an opportunity for the band to cope while capturing their reactions to the year's increasingly turbulent series of events. On November 13th, their conceptual second LP “Say Goodbye”, was released. Lyrically, the album contemplated the current and future state of the planet from the aerial perspective of an airplane. Visually, Art Director Benjamin Lieber was able to tie the music and concept together in a way that awarded each listener an emotional and cinematic experience akin to the monumental concept albums meticulously crafted by their classic rock heroes.
