Robbert Fossen
Biography
Robbert, born in 1969, began singing the blues in the late 1980s. Later he devoted himself to harmonica, guitar and bass. With bands like A Crossroads Deal, The Robbert Fossen Blues Band, The Fossen & Struijk Band and others, he did many shows in and around Holland.
Robbert won the Blues Award for Best Dutch Blues Vocalist 2014. Together with Peter Struijk he won the Dutch Blues Challenge 2012 and reached the final of the International Blues Challenge in Memphis (2013), as the first act of Dutch blues. In October 2016 he again won the Dutch Blues Challenge with the talented young pianist Dave Warmerdam. In Memphis they reached the semifinals.
He conducts his own Robbert Fossen Band; a band of 5 or 6 musicians that plays blues, soul and gospel. At the end of 2017 they will release their CD 'Get Off On It'.
In 2017, he formed a duet with Lothar Wijnvoord to play some bij acts inspired by acoustic blues, soul, country and gospel like Big Daddy Wilson, The Holmes Brothers and Eric Bibb. They will record their (semi) acoustic album in 2018.
During his 'career' he had the opportunity to play and tour with blues musicians such as Tail Dragger, Magic Slim, John Primer, Chick Rodgers, Nick Holt, Charles Hayes, T Model Ford, Willie Kent and Willie Buck. In 2012 he did a show with The Teardrops (Magic Slim's Band), because Slim had to stay in a French hospital. A few days later he opened for Magic Slim with Slim's Teardrops and played with Slim on the last song of his last.
