Berlin based, Munich born Sophie Schnell, aka Pyur, presents her second LP on Subtext titled Lucid Anarchy. Following on from the grandiose electro-acoustic composition of 2019’s Oratorio For The Underworld, the sonic world of Lucid Anarchy eschews rhythm in favour of condensed, focused pulsing electronic music that is both reduced in form, and expansive in emotional colour — seeking to communicate direct experience rather than explore narratives.
Schnell recorded this album in a period of personal and emotional upheaval between Berlin, a tiny fishing village in Bretagne, the Jura mountains and in a Tyrolean alpine village. Experiencing extreme internal intensity amongst the fragmented, kaleidoscopic external backdrop of raw and vivid nature and alienating human environments, Pyur’s emotions found their voice in the tracks that comprise lucid anarchy — nine prismatic, nebulous and emotionally raw electronic pieces that evoke the ecstatic bittersweetness of discovering one’s continued existence amongst the perpetual collapse of certainty and self — an evocation of the chaotic interrelation between the ungraspable abstractions of inner experience and the entropic dizzying beautiful endlessness of the world we observe.
