The Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra was established as the Kansai Symphony Orchestra in 1947. The name was changed to the current one in 1960. Takashi Asahina was the Music Director since 1947 to 2001. From 2003 to 2011, Eiji Oue succeeded as Music Director, while Michiyoshi Inoue was the Principal Conductor from 2014 to 2016. Since 2018, OTAKA Tadaaki has been the Music Director. The subscription concerts are held at the Festival Hall 10 times a year, two times for each. On the other hand, 'Osaka Classic' which is a kind of Music Festival for one week in early autumn, the musicians of Osaka Philharmonic take a large part in, is popular among Osaka citizen. They have got high reputation for the performance of Bruckner over years, besides that, the performance of Shostakovich with Inoue has been highly accraimed recently. They celebrated 75th anniversary in 2022.
