Bernard Harris - Bassed On Christmas
Genuinely funky Christmas music is hard to find yet this is exactly what bass player Bernard Harris has delivered with the CD ‘Bassed on Christmas’. Leading off with the single ‘Away In A Manger’ he comes up with a sequence of seasonal tunes all played with a wonderful ‘smooth jazz meets soul’ vibe. With the sad passing of Wayman Tisdale there is certainly a gap in the market for contemporary jazz bass and if Bernard can transfer his ‘Christmas cool’ to something that will work at any time of year then he might just be the man to fill it.
With his unique style of being a “lefty” and playing his bass upside down, Harris has shared the stage with the likes of Aaron Neville and Kirk Whalum. He is currently the Music Director for Mandisa who, as some will remember, was a season 5 finalist on the show American Idol.
