Caskets

The band was formed, originally under the name Captives, in 2018 by bassist Chris McIntosh and guitarist Benji Wilson, who had played together in other bands in the local scene. Viewing their new project as a "supergroup" of sorts, they recruited the very best players they could find: vocalist Matt Flood, guitarist Craig Robinson, and drummer James Lazenby. The members' musical tastes had been variously influenced by pop-punk, emo, and pop-metal bands like blink-182, Green Day, Sum 41, My Chemical Romance, and Linkin Park. Swiftly releasing the "Ghost Like You" EP and gigging extensively, they quickly built a loyal following and a large online listenership. Attracting interest from U.S. labels, they recorded a showcase session for a major digital radio provider, and ultimately signed with Nuclear Blast affiliate Sharptone Records. In 2021 they were struck a blow when they were forced to change their name from Captives owing to legal action taken by an Australian punk band who had trademarked the name. They chose the name Caskets; after some initial confusion, their fan base rallied around them in support.
