David Zo Senca

David zo Senca is the undisputed father of Slovak hip-hop, starting his career in hip-hop somewhere in the late 80's as a DJ. In the year 1989 he released a completely home-made demo "Do pici zo Senca" produced by him and Gabo zo Senca. David also made the vocals for the song, proving himself as a versatile person. This was probably the first underground hip-hop song in Slovakia. An interresting fact is that the song is completely in Slovak language, which was not common throughout many rappers who started in the years following, until the Rap Steady Crew made rapping in Slovak more popular.

David continued to release demos in the early nineties and started to associate with another rappers, mostly from Bratislava and Senec, which resulted into legendary Slovak underground compilation "Zvuk Ulice" (Sound of the Street), released somewhere in 1996-1997. This compilation was completely produced by him and was spread on the home-copied cassette tapes. The songs on this compilation were made in a time span of 5 years prior to its release.

The popularity of the compilation lead to the contract with the Monitor-Emi (now EMI) for another "Zvuk Ulice" compilation, now recorded in the studio. Although David managed to make a record deal that was completely by his conception, the hip-hop fans at the time considered this album commercial and a betrayal to the underground, because of the record deal with major label. So when it came out in 2000, it was received with contradictions. The album was released in only 1000 copies and nowadays it is rather a collectors item.

David, dissatisfied by the recognition of the compilation, moved to the background, but is continuing to release songs with his former companions from "Zvuk Ulice" and also other rappers.
