Genevieve Racette

Geneviève Racette grew up in a family of five, in a small bungalow, in the suburbs of Montreal. Music has always played a huge part of her family life. Her mom taught piano at home, her father was a music passionate, her sister played the piano and sang and her brother played the guitar and trumpet. Needless to say, Geneviève was destined to be a musician.

Geneviève first performed during teenage years at her high school. She discovered Ben Harper's music and fell in love with her Norman B20 acoustic guitar.

The desire to write and compose appeared in Geneviève Racette’s early twenties. Her journey led her to study vocal jazz performance at Cegep St –Laurent where she perfected her vocal skills. In 2012, she studied songwriting at “L’école nationale de la chanson de Granby” for one year.

Her first EP was released in May 2014 and for approximately a year and a half, her songs “Bricolage” and “Multicolore” were in the top 10 on Sirius XM francophone Radio.

In Spring 2015, Geneviève was nominated at the SiriusXM Indies awards for “emerging artist of the year (French)”.

In Summer 2015, she was the opening act for Damien Robitaille at the prestigious festival “Francofolies de Montréal”.

In Winter 2015, “Maison d’oiseaux” hit top 5 on the folk radio charts of ICI Musique.

In May 2016, Geneviève released her first full-length album called “Les aurores boréales” (Northern lights). Her first single “Noir et blanc” hit the charts again on Sirius XM French radio and many other radio stations in Québec.

In 2017, she toured Québec as the opening act for well-known singer-songwriters François Lachance and Valérie Carpentier. Geneviève has given more than one hundred performances in various venues. She has recently branched out to cities across Canada such as Vancouver, Banff and Toronto.

In spring 2017, Geneviève was chosen among 150 singer- songwriters to participate in a residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. For two weeks she worked on her songs with some of the best songwriters in Nashville (Don Henry, Matraca Berg, Kim Richey and Kevin Welch). She also had the opportunity to record her own material with Grammy nominated musician and producer, Howard Bilerman.

Following a busy summer touring the province of Québec on ROSEQ’s “découverte” Tour, Geneviève launched a new EP “Covers” on October 6th, 2017. You can hear her version of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” regularly on Coffee house XM (USA).

Geneviève’s new bilingual album “No Water, No Flowers” was released on May 24th 2019. This record reflect the growth she has endured as an adult since the release of her album Les aurores boréales. With her delicate voice Geneviève effortlessly transports you into a warm, cozy, folk-pop atmosphere with the most personal album she has created yet, covering themes of life, death, grief, love and travels. Pre-production of the album was done at the Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity in October 2018 with François-Pierre Lue and Luc Herrmann. Following Banff, the final production happened at Hotel 2 Tango Montreal with musicians Luc Herrmann (guitar and mandolin), Philippe Fleury (drums), Jeanne Corpataux-Blache (upright bass), Francis Veillette (pedal steel and banjo), Ariane Vaillancourt (piano), producer François-Pierre Lue and engineer Shae Brossard.

No Water, No Flowers was met by tremendous industry support including features within a number of Spotify editorial playlists (Folk & Friends, Acoustic Cafe International, Bon matin, Café montréalais, Nouveautés de la semaine Canada, Femmes incandescentes, Fresh Finds Franco, Down Home Country), chosen as the cover photo for Spotify’s Folk & Friends playlist, receiving over 250,000 Spotify streams and counting, charting in the top 10 on Radio-Canada Chansons Sirius XM, included in a number of Amazon Music’s playlists (Nouveautés, Fresh Pop, Girl Squad, Brand New Music), Apple Music featuring her within their ‘Best of the Week’ playlist and more.
