Kailin Yong

Kailin Yong is an internationally acclaimed violinist, composer, and educator, widely recognized as a 'fiddler for peace.' An alumnus of Raffles Institution, Yong chose to pursue his passion for music over engineering, going on to study at the prestigious Musikhochschule Wien (University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna). His early achievements include winning Singapore's National Music Competition in 1985 at the age of thirteen and performing with the Asian Youth Orchestra from 1991 to 1993.

Throughout his global career, Yong has performed across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. In 2004, he was awarded the prestigious Daniel Pearl Memorial Violin, an annual honor celebrating a young violinist who uses music to advocate for peace. This philosophy inspired him to found the Kailin Yong Peace Project, a world jazz orchestra dedicated to spreading joy, hope, and peace through original, world-inspired music.

Since returning to Singapore, Yong has remained a highly active and versatile figure in the music scene. He has performed as a soloist with the Singapore National Youth Orchestra (performing Bernstein's Serenade) and collaborated with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, which commissioned his composition 'Raising The Life.' His artistic collaborations span various disciplines, including work with the Maya Dance Theatre and directing projects for ARTIS, a charity empowering disabled individuals through the arts.

In addition to his orchestral and community work, Yong is a passionate busker who performs on the streets of cities worldwide. His discography includes the solo album 'Bowing With the Flow' (2008) and collaborative releases such as 'Menagerie' (2014) with artists like Joscho Stephan and Olli Soikkeli, 'Tradition, Tartan, Tears' (2012), and 'Intention Release' (2010). He has also performed under the banner of Kailin Yong and The Good People, notably sharing his deep knowledge of jazz masters at the Volkswagen Jazz Music Night.
