Quality Control introduces the first R&B signee Layton Greene in-conjunction with Motown during an emotional playback session.
During the session, Greene explained that just a year ago, she was working as a cashier at a Walmart in Nashville, TN when she posted a cover of Kodak Black’s ‘Rolling Peace,’ on her Instagram and received a whirlwind of praise. Greene’s cover went viral and caught the attention of the Quality Control CEO, Coach K. The EP features seven heart-wrenching songs all co-written by Layton with collaborations from fellow QC mates Lil Baby and City Girls in addition to, Atlantic music artist PnB Rock. Layton Greene’s first single, Leave Em Alone is already tracking at 800k daily streams on Spotify. The music video is slated to drop later this month.
Greene’s raw and charismatic persona drew in support from Capitol Records executives Steve Barnett, Michelle Jubelirer, Ashley Newtown and Ethiopia Habtemariam. Greene’s debut EP will connect with women on all levels and many will use her music to get through some tough relationships. My personal favorite song from the EP was ‘Blame Me,’ where Layton Greene opens up her diary to listeners with play by play details of her past several years where she faced homelessness, loneliness, volatile relationships and finally a season of new beginnings. Layton Greene rawness and unfiltered sound will allow her to beat at her own drum. Her realness is exactly what R&B needs.
