Blurring the lines between club and listening music, Nick Dow combines melody with fantasy, enveloping the listener in a world of surging musical landscapes.
“I want to make meaningful music, music that tells a story and takes the listener on a journey. Finding the line between club and listening music is always something i strive towards. If I can make people dance and think at the same time then I know I’m doing something right”, opines the young Scot.
As a child of the Scottish countryside, Nick’s imagination has always preceded him. The make-believe tales from his youth never left his mind and such creative thinking continues to shape his music today. Son of a musician, Nick Dow spent his childhood surrounded by weird and wonderful sounds. With a wide appreciation for many different genres, his first forays into music creation began with a guitar and an 8-track recorder. After a brief introduction to music production and computer programming at his local college, it was only a matter of time before Nick moved into the world of electronic music.
Nick Dow’s 4 main EP’s have tracked his evolution as an artist: from his incredibly energetic “Ancient Sequence” released on Herzblut in 2013, to the highly-acclaimed “Insect Parade” released on the infamous Traum Schallplatten in 2014, Nick’s musical contributions have demonstrated his ability to create uniquely intricate melodies and express a diversity of sentiment in his music. Having successfully broken through with his 2013 Herzblut release, 2014 proved to be a flurry of activity for the young Scot, releasing two further EP’s in addition to Insect Parade: Armour Plated and Pocket Harmony. Armour Plated in particular emphasised Nick’s ability to create deconstructed glitch-infected sounds through the analogue-infused track “Goujian”, whilst Pocket Harmony verified his ability to venture out with the realms of conventional club music through the stunning track “Leap”. All the while Nick Dow has also released a number of well-renowned remixes in which his artistic identity has shone through, the most recent being 2015’s remix of Sebastian Mulliert’s Direct Experience.
After living for some time in Berlin and New York, Nick is currently residing back in Scotland’s capital where he continues to progress and fine-tune his new live act: an act which seeks to integrate evermore interactive and dynamic forms of melody-production. As an artist who exclusively plays live, Nick Dow succeeds in providing a singular experience for all of his audiences, one which is as much about personal expression as it is about group harmony.
