Since the band's split in 2000, he has played with David Byrne, Neil Finn, and Yerba Buena.
Steinberg and former Soul Coughing colleague Mark De Gli Antoni also guest on many tracks of Miho Hatori's (of Gorillaz and Cibo Matto) solo album Ecdysis.
In 2004, Steinberg, Soul Coughing drummer Yuval Gabay and De Gli Antoni also collaborated together as Tempo Team with various guest musicians.
