Sonny Troupe Quartet

Sonny was born in February 1978. His father, George Troupé, a saxophonist, introduced him to a variety of music styles (jazz, gwoka, classical music, latin music, zouk…). The first instrument he played was the “ka” drum. Though he was taught to play in the traditional way, he rapidly evolved toward a more modern approach. At 6, he joined Kimbol, a band of Modern GwoKa, as a” Makè”, ka drum solo. At 8, he began studying drums and vibraphone by himself. From 1986 to 1995 he learnt music theory and ka at Marcel Lollia Music School in Sainte-Anne, Guadeloupe. In 1994, Theomel Ursul taught him the traditional rhythms of the French West Indies (beguine and mazurka).

In 1996 he left Guadeloupe to France. His musical experience was enriched by his participation to a symphonic orchestra, standard jazz bands, metal, fusion, soul, funk and reggae groups. He also studied at the Conservatoire National de Toulouse, in the Agostini Drum School from which he graduated and got the Superior Prize in piano, option Harmony Jazz.

For more than 10 years he has been playing with David Murray, Kenny Garrett, Reggie Washington, Mario Canonge, Daby Touré, Trio Laviso, Raghunath Manet, Solo Cissoko, Dédé Saint Prix… He also created the Sonny Troupé Quartet in 2010, the Fabso concept in 2007 and an Afro jazz punk trio “La face cachée des sous-bois” in 2003. He did studio recording with Jacques Schwarz Bart, Magic Malik, Lionel Loueke, Alain Jean Marie, Linley Marthe, Grégory Privat, Franck Nicolas…

Fruit of his meetings in Paris jazz jams , Sonny Troupé qualifies their agreement natural complicity. Mike Armoogum , Gregory Privat and Arnaud Dolmen alternating with Olivier Fair : three strong personalities , three soloists, three different origins ( Maurices Islands, Martinique , Guadeloupe ), three musicians by their talent and responsiveness give the quartet a permanent vitality , creativity in the moment , multiple musical universes .

arnaud_350Né in October 1985 , he began at the age of 2 years of musical initiation. At age 5 , he enrolled at the Marcel Lollia said bike in Guadeloupe led by Mr Georges Troupé workshop. He studied the ka and discovered a passion for this instrument. He gets to the battery, took lessons with Mr. Georges Troupé and Sonny Troupé and various stakeholders . He moved to France at the age of 18 to pursue his musical studies at the school of Dante Agostini Battery Toulouse , training concludes with the 1st prize jury unanimity . Since then, he has collaborated with many artists such as Jacques Schwarz Bart, Mario Canonge Kimbol , Alain Jean -Marie , Jonathan Jurion , Jasser Haj Youssef project , Michel Alibo , Etienne Charles , Jean -Christophe Maillard, Tiken Jah Fakoly ...
MIKE ARMOOGUM ( bass, vocals )

mike_350Originaire Mauritius for 10 years , it follows the classic route of Mauritian musicians , performing in major hotels in the country and festivals of islands in the Indian Ocean (Reunion, Seychelles , Rodrigues ... ) . It notably Kaya , the most famous artist of Sega , traditional music of Mauritius . He made his first tours in Europe in1993 . In 1999 , he met Boney Fields ( blues -funk trumpeter Chicago) , which engages in the Bone's Project. Musician with multiple influences , Mike Armoogum accompanied various artists such as Raoul De Souza , UP Wilson, Tino Gonzales, Jazz Trio Philippe Turlo , group B. Connected in Switzerland.
GREGORY PRIVAT (piano, keyboards)

greg_350Pianiste Caribbean Jazz born in Martinique in December 1984, he is considered one of the great talents of the new French jazz scene . The musical influence of his father José Privat, pianist Malavoi group gives him the cornerstone of the musician he is today. Within the group " Experience Project ", he began writing his first compositions in the world of music " Biguine Jazz " In July 2008 , he participated in Jazz Piano Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival , where he will semifinalist . In 2009 , he created his new quintet training , bringing together most of his compositions, with which it occurs in major jazz clubs and festivals in Europe. His solo album, noticed by jazz critics , TSF and SACEM was released in 2011 .
