The Free Jazz Festival was a music festival held annually, between 1985 and 2001, sixteen edits, all of them occurring simultaneously in Rio de Janeiro and in São Paulo.
The festival was sponsored by the company in the field of tobacco, Souza Cruz, hence the name Free Jazz, since "Free" is one of the brands of cigarettes produced by the company. The 1990 Edition was canceled by Souza Cruz. Albert King, Dizzy Gillespie and Take Six were already confirmed at the festival. The two last played in 1991, while Albert King played in 1992.
Miles Davis would be the big attraction of the 1988 Edition, but canceled your presentation days earlier for health reasons.
In 2002, the 17th edition of the festival was canceled, according to organizers of the event, due to the high of the dollar, which raised the costs to make your point. In January 2003, entered into force a law anti-tabagista, which prohibited tobacco companies be cultural events, ending in final with the festival, which had as its successor the TIM Festival.
