Melodic (dot) net adds. . .
First of all I must say to the Swedish readers of Melodic.net that
this Agnes is not the Swedish winner of Idol 2005.
No, this is the Agnes that did pretty well on the Finnish Idol and
now has got her debut album released through the major label Sony/
BMG in Finland.
This is a fantastic album that is filled with powerful modern rock/
hardrock with AOR-choruses that gets stuck in your head right away.
It's not that strange with first class songwriters such as Joey
Tempest (Europe), Mr. Lordi (Lordi), Kimmo Blom (Urban Tale), Luke
Morley (Thunder), Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica) and others.
The production is top-notch with a modern and powerful sound that is
amazing and it's nothing but a treat to listen to this outstanding
rock album.
Agnes has a strong and beautiful voice that reminds very much of
Tone Norum in the more calm parts and when she rocks her voice
reminds of Amy Lee (Evanescence). The album opens up with "Bleed"
that is a straight ahead rocker that gives you a wake up call with a
slight simple chorus but otherwise a nice rocker.
The first single "When The Night Falls" is nothing but a winner.
This is a freakin' awesome song with wonderful melodies and catchy
hooklines. A brilliant modern AOR song with a strong chorus.
Excellent stuff. Next up is "I Thought We Were Lovers" and this
could have been written by Desmond Child because this is nothing but
pure magic with a catchy chorus with stunning melodies - just listen
to the riffs and pompish keyboards. You don't get more AOR from a
major label these days, pure class.
"Changes" is a ballad and you can almost hear that Mr. Tempest has
been involved. "Danger In Love" is nothing but pure exctasy.
Outstanding song that has everything with heavy riffs, melodies and
tons of hooklines. The chorus is just brilliant which won't leave
your head for days, this is a huge powerful rocker.
"Ghost In Your Heart" is another rocker with a wonderful chorus that
reminds of The Rasmus. The last song of the album "Who Would Ever
Let A Love Like This Go" is a ballad a'la Bon Jovi.
This is an amazing album that Agnes has done with help from her
friends and it's a riddle how Finland can produce so many new great
artists that delivers sensational rock albums. Agnes is a modern day
Tone Norum mixed with Robin Beck meeting the power of Evanescence.
This is the best album an Idol artist has ever released so far. Just
get a copy of this awesome album.
Ripper's Notes:
I downloaded Agnes-When_The_Night_Falls-CD-FLAC-2006-mwnd way back
on May 31st 2020. Five and a half years later, I finally got a
chance to listen to it. Why, you may ask, did it take me so long?
Well, I listen to stuff in the order that I download it (If I start
to pick and choose, things will get skipped, and and I can't have
that!), and hell, it's free, so I download pretty much anything that
I have even the slightest interest/curiosity in. So, I have a huge
backlog of shit to listen to.
Why? Because of albums like this. Only released in Finland and
Japan, I never would have even heard of it unless it caught my
attention way back then. And, jesus christ, It's one hell of an
album! An absolute masterpiece, and likely one of my top ten albums
of all time.
As always, I rushed out and purchased that Japanese edition, which
includes three bonus tracks, all covers. The first two from
Finland's Idol's competition soundtrack, and the third, the Ozzy
Osbourne cover, from the soundtrack to the 2005 movie "Aideista
Parhain" (Mother Of Mine).
Shortly after this one, she put out a second album, Redemption,
which I'll be sharing shortly, and then seemed to fall off the face
of the earth. If anyone could share any further information about
her (musically, I'm not a stalker), I'd love to hear what she's been
up to since! You (may) know where to find me. . .
If you chose to share this, or any other release, elsewhere, please
give the original ripper/uploader the respect they deserve by leaving
it intact and giving credit where credit is due.
Remember, only by seeding everything you download to 1:1 are you doing your part to keep torrents alive!
As always, that just about covers it!
Enjoy, and SEED!
