Anthony Burrows (born 14 April 1942) is an English pop singer and recording artist. As a prolific session musician, Burrows was involved in several transatlantic hit singles throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s, most of which were one-hit wonders, including "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" by Edison Lighthouse, "United We Stand" by Brotherhood of Man, "My Baby Loves Lovin'" by White Plains, "Gimme Dat Ding" by the Pipkins and "Beach Baby" by the First Class.
During 1970, four singles by four different acts with whom he performed all charted at or near the top of the UK Singles Chart and additionally reached the top 20 in the United States, while a fifth single under his own name ("Melanie Makes Me Smile") reached the lower ends of the top 100 in the United States and Canada.
Ripper's Notes:
If you've followed my nfos over the years, you know I'm the dad of a young boy. He's 8 as of this typing. Part of being a dad, is preparing your kiddo for thier "real life." One of those responsiblities is making sure he's ready when he wants to start dating.
To that end, I've planned to make sure, before his first date, he's seen three movies. Barbie (2023), Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo (1999) and Shallow Hal (2001). These movies can help him understand what the world is like for a girl, and how a girl should be respected, all in a fun and entertaining way.
Though, he's many years from dating (hopefully!), a few weeks ago we watched Shallow Hal together. The lead female character is named Rosemary, and Edison Lighthouse's Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes) is played in the end credits. Fantastic song, and inspired me to look up the band. I was astounded to learn of Tony Burrows' unique contributions to pop music. I had to hear more. And, I'm one of those people who streaming just don't hit right, so I dug up this CD.
Rest assured, I did not pay anywhere near what people on eBay are asking for this disc. And, now, you, don't have to pay a penny to share Burrows' uniquely large and fascinating slice of pop history.
For the record, "Rosemary" and "Beach Baby" were the only songs I knew before listening to this.
