Oscar, Golden Globe and two-time Grammy winning American singer,
songwriter, actress and producer, born in New York City, NY March 18,
1959, died Nov 25, 2022 in Largo, Florida. Born and raised in the South
Bronx of Puerto-Rican and Cuban-American ancestry, she began singing and
dancing on local Spanish TV at age 7. Cara was a trained singer, actor
and dancer who made many stage and television appearances as a child,
including on PBS and on Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show. She is best
known for two movie themes she wrote and performed, "Fame (The Original
Soundtrack From The Motion Picture)" and the Academy Award-winning
"Flashdance... What A Feeling".

My son, 9 as of the time of this writing, is very hard to wake up for
school in the mornings. Like, World War III battles to get him up and
moving. One thing I've learned that helps me get him up is playing
music he likes (like father like son). His current obsession is the
soundtrack to Trolls Band Together.
One particular song on the Trolls soundtrack is called "Watch Me Work"
which incorporates Irene Cara's "Fame" into the mash-up.
If you are a frequent reader of my enlightening nfos, you know I tend to
get a wee bit OCD about music, and hearing this son over and over (and
over and over) got me obsessed with "Fame."
Like most people, I really only knew "Fame" and "Flashdance" from Ms.
Cara, but as a strange coincidence, this semi-bootleg best of was just
released, so I figured it would be a solid introduction to her. I'm
quite happy I did, there isn't a bad song in the mix, and for me to say
that about a disco album, well, that's saying something.
The packaging is sparse, pressed on CDr, but it's very well made,
including professionally machine sealed, and the mastering is consistent
and the sound quality is excellent.
Maybe one day Ms. Cara will get the deluxe treatment, an anthology she
really deserves, but till then, this will do just fine.
